From 1987 to 1999, Marlatt lead a career in architectural software both in Europe and the United States. Within weeks of arriving to teach senior level design at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris in 1986, he joined start-up French software firm Abvent to prepare their 3D modeling program, SpaceEdit, for the US market. From 4 people in 1987, Mr. Marlatt and his colleagues grew Abvent to become one of France's largest developers and distributors of software for architects and designers. After six years with Abvent in Paris, Marlatt returned to the United States in 1992 and settled in San Francisco with his wife and new son. In January 1993, he joined Graphisoft U.S., Inc., developers of ArchiCAD, as president. During his tenure, sales more than tripled as ArchiCAD won industry acclaim receiving MacUser Magazine's Eddy Award for "Best New CAD Software" in 1994 and Computer Graphics World magazine's Editor's Choice Award for 'Best CAD" in 1995. ArchiCAD for Teamwork won the Software Publisher's Association's Codie award for Best Groupware in February 1998. Marlatt was promoted to vice president of marketing communications for the Budapest-based parent in January 1998, and was a key participant in preparing Graphisoft's successful initial public stock offering in June of that year. In the Spring of 1999, Marlatt left Graphisoft to re-establish his practice of architecture, taking with him the lessons of technolgy, business and customer service learned during his successful career in architectural software.
